Tips For Choosing the Right Wedding Photographer

If you want professional photos taken of your wedding then you need to ask yourself the following questions. Should I hire a professional photographer or do I know someone who takes beautiful photos and could do it at a fraction of the price? Do I need photos taken from the beginning of the day to the end of the reception?

Before you make a final decision about your photos you need to answer the following two questions honestly. How often do you look through photos or have a slideshow? Are you in the habit of decorating your home with family or personal photos?

If your answer is "no" to both questions then it may be a wise decision to hire a family member or friend who is proficient with a camera, to take the photos for you. The money you saved can be used in other areas.

If you answered "yes" then maybe you should hire a professional. Finding a good professional photographer is not always easy and knowing where to start is the hard part.

Before you make your decision, these points may help you with your selection. Whether they are professionals or just weekend photographers you need to do the following:

1. Check if they have qualifications and ask where and when they completed their photography training.
2. How long have they been working as a professional photographer?
3. How many weddings, engagements, birthdays or special events have they been hired to photograph?
4. Do they do their own editing and if so what program do they use?
5. Do they have a standard editing procedure for all events?
6. Are they prepared for any unforeseen events by bringing along a spare camera?
7. Do they have a collection of previous photos to show you?
8. Is there anything unique about their photos?
9. Do they take photos both in colour and black and white?
10. Do they take their photos in selected locations, allowing for changes in the weather?
11. Do they take engagement photos as part of their package?
12. Is there a limit to the number of photos you can choose for your album and what is included in your package?

There may be more questions you can ask but this will be a guide to the things you need to know before you choose your photographer. If your photos are terrible it's really difficult to go back and do it all again!
